Landless families in the villages of West Bengal often suffer from acute shortage of food, fodder and firewood. At the same time, the common properties in the villages including fallow lands across road sides, river embankment, land beside irrigation canals remain underutilised or gradually degrade. Since 1998, DRCSC started facilitating innovative community-led Common Property Resource (CPR) management models in Birbhum District to ensure these communities obtain most of the firewood, fodder, and fodder requirements from CPR and also can generate additional cash income.
This study highlights how the CPR models have been operationalised, community engagement approach, and delivered impact.
