Food insecurity in Africa – already a humanitarian emergency

The first warning of food emergency in Africa   was released after several muted warnings over a period of a year before   that. This year yet again, the food crisis is set to begin its cruel cycle.   Organizations issue warnings but global humanitarian response has been feeble   and muted as of late. Read more here.   There are about 16 million people across 6 African countries that face food   shortages in varying degrees from ‘stressed’ to ‘emergency levels’. Read more   here.   According to the UNHCR, the humanitarian crisis in Mali is a threat to the   ‘whole region’ (read here).   UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres said that the efforts by   International communities in Mali were severely underfunded (read here).
