70 per cent of Sierra Leone lives below the poverty line, many of them pushed there due to the decade long civil war that persisted. MIX Market enlists about 33,000 borrowers in the country, out of a total population of about 5 million, and the country’s total loan portfolio stands at about US$34 million, average loan size being US$130.
