Water innovation in agriculture, led by a humble farmer

Agricultural revolution in the developing world is not being carried out by scientist, or any of the likes, but by a humble farmer from the state of Gujarat in India, named Purushottambhai Patel. He is a smallholder farmer who uses the cow dung from his 8 cows to produce bio-gas, which he uses in combination with diesel to feed a water pump that waters his farms, saving him US$400 a year in fuel costs. The water pump, ensuring adequate supply of water has doubled his crop production, and he even sells some of the water to his neighbours, contributing to higher agricultural productivity still.
