India: SEWA launches factory for sanitary towels for poor rural women

Menstruation for women in rural areas is a cause of problem as they are forced to use unsanitary rags that cause diseases. Very often young girls do not attend schools because of unavailability of cheap sanitary towels. Now, SEWA, Self Employed Women’s Association has launched a factory which produces these towels for a price of 80 paise per pad. This is affordable compared to the INR3-5 worth of traditional options available in the market. These towels are made from waste and recycled materials. Read more here.
