India: GMSS – an SHG model that could work sustainably

GMSS (Gramin Mahila Swayamsiddha Sangh) is an SHG federation based in Rajgurunagar in Maharashtra, launched by an NGO called Chaitanya. The GMSS model uses group savings as a means to raise money which is lent out to its members, and regulation and representation goes from group to clusters, and from clusters to federation.
