Poor hygiene cost thousands of lives in Asia, says WHO

While poor nutrition, lack of primary healthcare and anaemia had been the primary contributors to the high rate of infections and disease outbreaks in Asia, poor hygiene practices in most of Asia has been found to be one of the catalysts to this scenario, making people weaker. According to a senior UN health official, at a cost of what Europe spends on ice cream (annually), access to better hygiene and sanitation could save the lives of ‘hundreds and thousands’ of children.
