Indonesia: Changing attitudes is the main problem

This post focuses on the difficulty in changing the attitudes of people regarding sanitation and good hygiene practices, which, according to Almud Weitz, WSP’s principal regional team leader, was the key challenge. According to her, Indonesia’s practice of increasing budgetary allocation for provision of more toilets is ineffective and expensive, and that funds were to be better used if channelled towards behavioural changes. Indonesia’s aim to end open defecation by 2014 still remains ‘ambitious’. Read more here.
