NERICA – New Rice for Africa
Dr Monty Jones was commissioned to research on rice varieties for West African drought and famine conditions when he joined WARDA (Upland Rice Breeding Programme at the Africa Rice Centre) and the result has been a landmark rice variety that he calls NERICA. It has shorter life cycle, and is suitable for climatic conditions in West Africa. Read more here.
