India: Bihar turns to internet to make its healthcare centres work

In India, aanganwadis are healthcare centres which were introduced by the government of India at the village level, to provide healthcare and supportive care to mothers and children. These also double as healthcare institutions in most villages. The Indian state of Bihar is one of the most underdeveloped in the country. Here, more than half of aanganwadi centres are inactive, and funds go to waste. The state has finally cracked down on these, dismissing redundant role members in these institutions and has also decided to institute web-based reporting and monitoring systems. Read more here.
