Bangladesh’s urbanization creating a healthcare black hole

Dhaka in Bangladesh is home to sprawling slums, which get pushed increasingly far out to the city’s fringes. The administration does not acknowledge, let alone take responsibility for these voluntarily displaced people and healthcare has emerged as an area of concern – with hospitals already working on a 50 per cent staff capacity, and trying to accommodate as many as 3000 patients in facilities with 800 beds.
