New UN report – changed projections, new methodology, 868 million hungry in the world

UN FAO’s latest report pegs the number of   hungry people in the world at 868 million, against a previous UN projection   of 1 billion. This change is the result of adoption of a new calculation   methodology. Jose Graziano da Silva, director general commented on this by   saying that this constituted a decrease in the number of hungry in the world,   sparking hope that hunger and nutrition MDGs could in fact be achieved, but that   the progress was still too slow, with 1 in 8 people in the world still   hungry.
