How poor make sacrifices to keep a mobile phone

This post challenges the belief that mobile phones have only transformed the lives of the poor in the developing world for the better. According to study done by iHub, an incubator for Kenyan tech start-ups, most Africans will skip a meal or walk rather than take a bus to keep their mobile phones in credit. In other words, the poor’s discretionary spending is influenced a lot by their spending on mobile phones. Read more here and here.
