The journey of clean cookstoves has been eventful – after the WHO data regarding 2 million annual deaths due to indoor air pollution (IAP) caused by traditional cookstove smoke, global initiatives were kickstarted, totalling a massive amount in funds. However, something went wrong with implementation, management and maintenance. The uptake and usage methods were not followed up, and this led to the studies that showed negligible health and environmental benefits from the clean cookstoves. This post suggests a hardware combined with software to attain success approach, as has been used in the field of sanitation. Read more here.
