Kiva recognizes the dire need for scaling up sanitation and yet is aware of the massive costs involved in building infrastructure that even the governments of many developing countries shy away from. It is now engaged in creating loan products tailor made to make sanitation facilities affordable to the poor families, and is also involved with an enterprise in Kenya which expects to lower its sanitation-provision costs by selling waste-turned-biogas to public utilities companies.
