Brazil: A breakthrough investment model in affordable housing

The challenges in Brazil’s housing scenario are well known. Brazil has a housing deficit affecting 28.5 million people, affecting 1.48 million houses in Sao Paulo alone. The US$3.6 million investment by Bamboo Finance in Bille of Crinale (a Brazilian housing developer) has recently been much in the news. This post lays out the operational structure of this scheme, wherein people with very low incomes are eligible to acquire quality houses built by Crinale, through the Brazilian Government’s Minha Casa, Minha Vida scheme. The enterprising aspect of this model is that Bamboo expects to provide a 20-25 per cent return to its investors. Read more here.
