While the concept of social impact bonds was first piloted in the UK to reduce the rates of recidivism, they have taken off in the US in both New York as well as Massachusetts. The catch with these is that investors will lose their initial capital if the agreed conditions are not met. If they are, the investors are returned a ‘reward’ along with their initial capital.
