India: Deaths from respiratory illnesses on the rise

According to the Statistical   Handbook of India, 2013, some 2,429

people died owing to respiratory diseases in 2011, a number far greater than that of deaths caused by water borne diseases and Japanese encephalitis. According to the country’s government, 26.3 million suffer from acute respiratory diseases, caused by indoor air pollution and rising air pollution levels. Read more here.
