India: Greenpeace installs a solar pump set

Bihar is one of the most economically backward states in India. Most of its rural population is reliant on agriculture. Looking at the need for irrigation facilities in the state, as well as the lack of electricity and availability of plenty of sunlight, Greenpeace recently installed a solar-run irrigation pump in one of Bihar’s villages, as a demonstration of the uses of solar energy.
