The Indian President, while lauding the work of the Central Government NRHM scheme (National Rural Healthcare Mission), in terms of its reach and ability to provide medical care to the rural poor, pointed out that the next step would be to achieve efficiency. He pointed out that in the past 7 years, the budgetary allocation for the health sector increased more than 3 times, yet the advancement of healthcare in its reach has not been proportional, and that striving to achieve efficiency would help rectify this.
