Nairobi: Ridding the drains of ‘flying toilets’ and cutting down on charcoal expenses

In Nairobi, access to sanitation is an issue of a major part of the city’s population. Most use what are called flying toilets, that is, defecating in a plastic bag and throwing it into the drains, which subsequently adds to clogging. Now, Josiah Omotto, an innovator who is researching on ways to use human waste as biofuel usable as cooking fuel, who also received a research grant from the Gates Foundation is close to arriving at the solution to poor sanitation.
