NineSigma partners with Scientists without Borders for micronutrition packaging innovation

Scientists Without Borders and its partners had issued a challenge on NineSights(TM), NineSigma’s new open innovation social media platform of providing a reward of up to US$25,000 for novel, feasible, and cost-effective sustainable packaging ideas, or new methods of packaging for micronutrient powders (MNPs). In response, NineSigma Inc. partnered with The Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science at the New York Academy of Sciences, and DSM’s nutrition think tank, Sight and Life to solve the challenge. Lack of micronutrients, called hidden hunger creates development problems in children as well as causes chronic disease. The current packaging is difficult to recycle, destroy, or repurpose.
