The bitter truth about Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain that outsmarts its other   family members by being high on protein and amino acids, and low on fat.   While quinoa was not on high demand for a long time, vegetarians’ preference   for this crop has made its price almost triple since 2006. This has led to   quinoa, a nourishing staple food for the poor in countries like Bolivia and   Peru, becoming unaffordable. It is now more expensive than chicken –   ‘imported junk food’ is cheaper.
