UN: 870 million in the world hungry

In their latest report, UN FAO said that   about 12.5 per cent of the world’s total population, or 868 million people   are currently suffering from hunger in the world. This is a significant   downward revision from the estimate of 1 billion, or 18.6 per cent of the   world’s total, made in 2009. Read more here.   UN seems to have adopted a new methodology which has led to this new revision   (read here),   while the director general of UN said that this represents an actual   shrinking in the number of hungry in the world.
