Nepal
British International Investment (BII) sought to explore impact investment opportunities within Nepal’s growing logistics sector. With the sector being a critical enabler of trade and market access in a geographically complex country, BII aimed to understand its structure, gaps, and potential investable pathways — including evaluating a prospective portfolio company for sustainable, inclusive growth.
As part of BII’s advisory consortium, in partnership with Bopinc Netherlands, we led a comprehensive landscape analysis of Nepal’s logistics ecosystem. Our team designed and executed the research, conducting consultations with 43 respondents across 26 organizations, including government departments, private sector enterprises, commercial banks, national associations, and base-of-the-pyramid actors such as truck owners and drivers. Through this multi-stakeholder engagement, we assessed market size, value chain efficiencies, financial viability, policy bottlenecks, and inclusion opportunities within the sector. The insights were synthesized into a detailed study report and presented at a stakeholder workshop in Kathmandu, facilitating dialogue among key ecosystem actors.
The study along with the stakeholder validation workshop provided BII with an evidence-based understanding of Nepal’s logistics landscape, identified priority investment areas and systemic barriers, and supported BII in making informed decisions on potential impact investments in the sector.
